I was invited to a birthday party for a friend’s one-year-old this weekend. This is a little girl who had a rough start, being born 2 1/2 months early. She spent 2 months in the hospital and was eventually able to come home. Her mom spent that time traveling back and forth to the hospital, since we are about 1hr away from Landstuhl, where she was in the NICU. She’s made wonderful progress in the last year, and except for a few lingering issues, like any other 1 yr old. She’s adorable, so I had to make something for her birthday BBQ, and this is it. It is the Knitted Cuddlies Bear by Louisa Harding. The pattern was originally in the book Natural Knits for Babies and Moms, but has been released by Knitting Daily as one of their free patterns. It was really easy to make, composed of 5 rectangles knit and sewn into the various parts of the bear. And you can use the instructions to construct a bear, cat, or rabbit, depending on how you do the shaping. It’s a wonderful pattern that I see being reused any time I have a little person to make a special gift for.
